What inspired you to launch your own website?
My daughter inlaw gave birth to my grandson. The funny thing is out of my three children, my youngest was the last person that we thought would get married and have children. Now he has a daughter too.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
I launched my first site in 2003, it was skincare from Israel. I no longer do that
How did you decide on a name for your website?
If you have ever been to the UK and traveld on the underground you will have heard this "Mind the Gap". So I thought it would be cute to name my site Mind-thebump.
What makes it different from other, similar offerings?
I try to have something different that a lot of other sites do not have. I also have a good range of styles.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
Build it up and eventually get a bricks and mortar store all though in this economy it may take some time
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
not bad, could be better. I spend more time helping my husband in his business.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
I would spend more on advertizing in Magazines and I would have my own exclusive line.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
Yes
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
A few times I have had Refunds when I least expected it. Mostly because of color, size or the fact that the item was out of stock and the client refused to wait on it.
What has been your biggest challenge?
Building clientel. I am competeing with the likes of walmart and Target along with the stores in the mall.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
Magazine news letters. Just befor Christmas I paid $600 for an add in a big regular online magazine and didnt get many customers from it. But I got more from the little online newsletters and give aways.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
I thought It would be eisier than it is. Also most of the time people want either the color that I dont have or something that is on back order.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
I have run the site for almost 3 years. Its making money, not a fortune but some.
