Please give us a short summary of your website?
Budah Babies puts a unique spin on ordinary infant apparel. We offer original, high quality, hand crafted burp cloths, long sleeve onesies and bibs. Each is sold individually or as a set. Perfect for a special yet practical gift or for your own little budah baby!
What inspired you to launch your own website?
I am a stay at home mother who has always loved sewing and I love a challenge! Launching a website and starting my own business seemed the perfect challenge while also implementing some money for my family.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
Budah Babies is my first website and I launched it in November, 2007.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
My husband and I brainstormed and agreed on the name. Our two children are our little budah babies!
What makes it different from other, similar offerings?
My burpcloths are all diaper service quality, oversized diapers that are embellished with quality fabric, whereas other companies are offering lesser quality diapers that will not last as long. Most of the other companies that I have researched also do not offer tagless, long sleeve onesies. All of my products I use on my own children.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
My goal is to have a good time making wonderful baby items, eventually expanding my product line to include items for older children, and have a nice second income for my household.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
Budah Babies was just launched, so time and money investment far outway my financial success right now.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
I would be able to spend a lot more money on advertising and hire some help, like a part-time babysitter.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
Yes I would. I would make it happen, I am a very determined person.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
The cost of a website is huge! I never imagined how expensive it could be, but you do what you can and take a lot of deep breaths. I was also very naive to the amount of time it takes to launch and do it the "right" way.
What has been your biggest challenge?
The biggest challenge is balancing work time and time with my children.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
Word of mouth and getting my name out there at craft shows and any social events. Networking has been an invaluable resource as well!
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
It is a lot of work. Long hours and a lot of planning.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
Like I said, I just launched my site a few months ago. I plan to keep it up indefinately, I would like to believe that I will be successful enough to have my business for many years.
What is your favorite part of owning a business?
My favorite part is feeling like I am able to accomplish something other than cleaning up after my children, wiping noses and doing mom/wife things all the time. I feel human again and wonderful to have started a huge project and do something that is for myself, but also benefits my family. It is very exciting to me!
