Please give us a short summary of your website?
This is a website with resources and information relevant to young dancers and their parents.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
When my daughter started to dance competitively I felt really out of the loop. As I became more informed I decided to start a blog to help other parents get "insider" information.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
My first website was a portfolio website in 1997.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
I wanted it to be descriptive of what my key target was "childrens dancewear" But I think the website is about so much more.
What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?
My website is not a store. It is article based. It's description of items you can get. It gives reviews and historical information about suppliers, manufacturers and products. It's informative and helpful.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
My goal is to keep it. Hopefully make some money from it through affiliates and adsense.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
So far not very balanced but because it is a topic of great interest to me and I love the topic its totally worth all the work. Hopefully it will pay off.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
I would change the format to make it more magazine style. I would hire writers to increase the content
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
Yes I think so my background is in graphic/web design and content development. I outsoource more responsibilities but continue with he research and writing.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
Nothing really as far as headaches except for the one time I thought I deletes my database but other then that its been pretty good.
What has been your biggest challenge?
Finding the time to write and research as well as seo.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
I get a lot of success from bookmarking. Amplify, digg and mixx helps get the word out.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
I was hoping it would make a profit sooner then it has. I've managed sites before so other then all the seo I knew what I was getting into.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
almost 3 months now. I hope to continue with it while my daughter is in dance and the subject is important to me. Probably another 4 years at least.
