If you're thinking of visiting the torrid zone during the rainy season, here are some good tips for keeping your feet clean and dry, your shoes in good condition, and your clothes free from mud. Avoid wearing flip-flops, even if the weather is warm enough. Flip-flops (or thongs) splash mud and water on the back of your clothes. You'd be surprised how high those splashes can reach. It's like you're wearing miniature mud trebuchets.
Leather shoes can be a decent option if you're careful when storing and drying them.
Cheap black shoes will ruin your socks, and wearing them without socks is NOT a good idea. Think ink stained feet.
