I'm sorry to say to the traditionalists out there that a suit doesn't mean success. There are plenty of examples (especially in IT) where making a good first impression when not wearing a suit is very possible. I don't mean to say that one shouldn't dress well. Smart casual can be done in any number of ways and the first impression doesn't exclusively refer to what you're wearing but also includes how you come across to the other side. Are you arrogant when trying to be confident? Are you overcompensating for a weakness when you should be admitting it? These also are important things to think about when discussing first impressions.
