Please give us a short summary of your website?
Heirloom quality Christening and baptism apparel for children. Selling hundreds of outfits each month, we offer a wide range of styles and prices. We sell many Christening gifts and accessories too.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
Mothers, Fathers, Grand Parents, and God Parents all have a hard time finding Christeing gowns and baptism outfits in town. Even if they live in a big city, but especially if they live in a smaller town. We wanted to provide a great resource for them to buy.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
ShepherdsCrade-Christening.com started as a hobby in 2002.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
We thought for a long time about a good name. We then narrowed it down to a list of 3-4 names and asked other people (especially mothers) what they thought. "Shepherd" is in reference to Christ, the Good Shepherd. And "cradle" makes it clear we sell baby products.
What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?
We're different from others because of out extensive offering of Christening clothing from a variety of manufacturers. Most websites you visit sell from only one or two suppliers. So, we have a wide range of styles and prices.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
ShepherdsCradle-Christening.com is a nice family business. We will continue to grow. Perhaps may sell some day.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
We are surprised at the success and growth.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
We would test a some new logos and new website designs. However, we have done a little of this and realize we have a pretty good thing going.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
Yes.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
Growth, but we have managed well.
What has been your biggest challenge?
We have a small percentage of returns, but since we have such high volume of sales, the quantity of returns is a headache.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
Newspaper and online advertising.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
This is one of several websites we've started, so knew what we were getting into.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
Since 2002. The website will continue forever.
